Writing A Business Plan

Writing a business plan is the first step to starting a business personally I think as long as you have some sort of plan you can start your business but a business plan is going to be useful for management and also if you want investment you will need a business plan. A business plan is basically a blueprint for your business and this post will highlight what you need to include when writing a business plan.

Contents of the business plan.

1. Executive Summary – This will be a brief explanation of your business idea.
2. Organisational Background – This will highlight the key people in the business their history and the current status of the business.
3. Marketing Plan – The marketing plan will highlight the main marketing channels you will use and how you will use these to communicate your product/services with the customers.
4. Operations Plan – This will highlight the businesses operations how will you produce or provide the product service, what equipment do you need and who will manage it?
5. Financial Plan – A financial plan will include a cash-flow forecast, a break even graph and projected profit and loss account. This will also include any investment will be needed to start the business.
6. Risk Assessment – This section will highlight any risks involved with running the business and how these risks will be handled by the business.
7. Appendixes – This is where you can put anything that did not fit into one of the sections most businesses usually put big graphs or diagrams in this section for instance the cash flow forecast could go into this section.

As you can see from the list there is a lot to consider when writing a business plan the more thorough you can be now the more clear your path to success will be. Also remember the business plan is not fixed a lot of the time a person will start a business and find a new way to run the business or a new market this is why you should update your business plan if you realise there is a better way to do something or you have over/under estimated something.
